Aegis operative Brian Walker’s orders are clear: observe, but don’t touch. Things change, though, the moment the leggy brunette makes him an offer he can’t refuse. Desire leads to seduction, but it comes at a price. Because someone wants her dead, and if Brian’s not careful, his obsession for a woman he never should have touched could get them both killed.

So when Sawyer goes away for work, Keely escapes to the city and to the notorious sex club, The Playhouse. But when Sawyer finds her there, unexpected and explosive sexual tension flares hot and heavy between them—and Keely refuses to return home with him until he spends two nights in The Playhouse with her. Just one problem: Mina doesn’t want saving.

SINFUL DECEPTION by Joan Swan

When Marcus Lucero’s border patrol teammate suggests a sexcam site for female companionship without heartache, Marcus figures he’s got nothing to lose.

Excerpt from Elisabeth Naughton’s SINFUL SURRENDER, book 1 in the SINFUL SECONDS anthology:

She set her glass on the coffee table in front of her and leaned forward, all confidence and seduction, contrasting again with her youthful face and quirky movements. That fresh, alluring scent of hers drifted over him once more, bringing awareness to the forefront of his mind and his blood back to pounding. “And a professional athlete hanging out at a trendy ski resort. So tell me, Brian, why did you come up here with me instead of going with that voluptuous blonde at the bar who was hitting on you before we started talking?”

Her eyes were like warm pools of dark chocolate, and when she leaned forward like that, her arms pressed her breasts together, forcing them outward, drawing his attention straight to her cleavage, advertising the fact she was anything but a young girl.

“Because I know girls like her. They’re fake and immature. I’m not interested in that.”

“What are you interested in?”

You. Though I shouldn’t be. “I don’t know. Something different, I guess.”

Her top teeth sank into her bottom lip, and his gaze followed, his mouth remembering just how she’d tasted, his body vibrating with the memory of how she’d felt pressed up against him. And damn, but he wanted to experience that again. Right now.

“Different is good,” she whispered. “I’m definitely different.”

Get up. Leave. Go now before you fuck up your career.

She scooted closer, and her bent knee brushed his thigh, sending tingles all through his lower body as if he’d been shocked by a live wire. “The question is… What are you going to do about it?”

Something he shouldn’t. Something that was going to screw things with his boss for good. “Samara…I’m bad news.”

“Maybe.” Her gaze locked on his mouth, and slowly she ran her tongue over her bottom lip like she couldn’t wait to take her own sinful taste again. “But I doubt it.”

Elisabeth Naughton Answers All Your Questions about Bondage

It’s been more than a year since I hosted Elisabeth Naughton on the blog in which she gave us advice on how to electrocute your husband without getting caught, and in that time, all of us at Kiss and Thrill have learned that people use the Internet to search for ways to murder their spouse with disturbing regularity.

We at Kiss and Thrill would like to believe our blog had something to do with the spectacular rise of WAIT FOR ME, the book Elisabeth featured in that blog post, which spent 5 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list earlier this year. (And is currently #4 on Amazon’s bestsellers of 2013 so far!) but we know we had nothing to do with it. If there were a ranking of authors who give advice on mariticide, we could and would take full credit for Elisabeth’s #1 ranking, but as far as WAIT FOR ME goes, the credit all goes to Elisabeth, who wrote a fabulous, intensely emotional romantic suspense novel that will always be one of my favorites in the genre. (Seriously, if you haven’t read WFM yet, get it now—the book is amazing!)

BoundFINALNYTtagIn late March, the latest book in Elisabeth’s Eternal Guardians series, BOUND, was released, and because I love her paranormal romance novels as much as her romantic suspense, I invited Elisabeth back to K&T, hoping this time she’d give us some solid advice on bondage (hey, the book is called Bound …) but leery of being ranked #1 in bondage advice within the pantheon of romance authors, Elisabeth opted to be interviewed instead. Personally I was looking forward to seeing “how to tie up your husband without getting rope burns” in the search engine terms, but Elisabeth was firm.

However, while she didn’t want to answer *my* bondage questions, she didn’t say anything about questions from our readers… (and I might be sort of hoping she doesn’t notice the title I gave to this post). In spite of the lack of bondage advice, I’m thrilled to welcome Elisabeth Naughton back to Kiss and Thrill! Elisabeth is giving away a copy of BOUND to one lucky commenter. Please check back on Thursday to see if you are our winner!

Rachel: What published author (any genre) turns you into a total fangirl?  Is there a particular book or is this based on their entire body of work?

Elisabeth: Susan Elizabeth Phillips. I love all her books, but especially her Chicago Stars series. My favorites are THIS HEART OF MINE and MATCH ME IF YOU CAN. I can’t write funny – I’ve tried but my characters always end up either too angsty or killing someone – but I love to read funny and no one does romantic comedies better than Susan Elizabeth Phillips.

Funny fan-girl story about her…at last year’s Romantic Times Convention in Chicago, I saw her at the book signing. I was signing too, and she had a featured table at the end of my row. I kept watching to see when she had a break in readers because I desperately wanted to get an autographed copy of her recent release. So when I had a lull in readers and I saw she did too, I jumped up and raced over to her. She must have seen me coming because her eyes grew wide and she leaned waaaay back in her seat. Then (like a total fan girl) I started rambling. I have no idea about what – probably which books of hers I’m in love with. I know I went on and on about being a writer myself (so she wouldn’t think I was a total loon) and pointed out my table. She gave me one of those “aaah” raised eyebrow looks and leaned back even further, like she didn’t believe me. About half way through my rambling, I realized things weren’t going very well and she probably thought I was a  total stalker. Which, at this point, I felt like. So completely mortified, I grabbed my book, ducked my head and slinked back to my table.

Rachel: I haven’t read THIS HEART OF MINE (yet), but I LOVED MATCH ME IF YOU CAN. And the next one… I think it started with the heroine in a beaver costume? LOVED that book. I would happily take a month off from life and read nothing but SEP.

Have you ever written fan fiction, and if so, what work was it based on?  If you haven’t, what would you be tempted to write fan fiction about?

Elisabeth: No, I’ve never written fan fiction, but if I was tempted, I’d HAVE to write fan fic for Game of Thrones. Except I wouldn’t kill off the well-loved characters (well, not all of them anyway). Or, in keeping with my paranormals, I’d kill them off then bring them back to life (but not as white-walkers. Ew!)

Rachel: I’ve never thought about it that way before, but I totally agree—what is fanfic for if not to fix the heartache George R.R. Martin caused me when I first read Game of Thrones? I loved that book. And it broke my heart.  Okay, next question.  Facebook or Twitter?

Elisabeth: Both, though I really like the ease of Twitter. I’m sort of addicted. I find I use Facebook more for promo and to connect with my fans and Twitter to network with other authors.

Rachel: What is the strangest weapon you’ve used to kill off a character, either on or off-scene?

Elisabeth: I’m so boring. I use knives and guns and sword-type weapons in my books. I did kill a character with a pitcher of lemonade in STOLEN SEDUCTION. Poisoned lemonade. That was fun.

Rachel: Tell us about BOUND.

Elisabeth: BOUND is the sixth book in my Eternal Guardians series. The Eternal Guardians are seven warriors who can trace their lineage back to the greatest heroes in Ancient Greece and who protect the mortal realm from threats of the Underworld. BOUND is Titus’s book.

Rachel: Sigh. Love Titus. I know you have a lot of fans who are eagerly awaiting Nick’s book (me too!) but I’ve been waiting for Titus ever since we learned a bit about his curse in ENTWINED.

Elisabeth: Titus is a descendent of Odysseus, the great thinker, but he’s been both blessed and cursed. He can read minds, but he also feels the emotions of those he touches. Touch is something he’s learned to avoid—from anyone—because the force of the emotional transfer can be crippling. He’s served with the Guardians for over a hundred years and never questioned his loyalty. Until he meets a woman he can touch and whose thoughts he can’t hear. Obsessed, he has an uncontrollable urge to find out why she’s special. And that curiosity takes him on a journey he never expected.

Rachel: I loved, loved, loved BOUND. I was enthralled with the way you interwove the myths involving Prometheus into the story and pulled together threads laid in earlier books in the series. And the heroine – well, I LOVE a strong, fiery heroine, and Natasa is that and so much more.

Thank you so much, Elisabeth for joining us today! We’ll open up comments to readers with questions about bondage… I mean BOUND… 😉

How to Electrocute Your Husband Without Getting Caught

If you follow Elisabeth Naughton or me on Twitter, you might have noticed we are friends (although it’s entirely possible you’ve assumed we are enemies, because there might be just a tiny amount of snark in someone’s Twitter stream…) and after reading her post, I want to make it clear, I adore Elisabeth.  Really.  I think she’s great.  And brilliant.  And I’m not saying that because I want to stay on her good side (but I really want to stay on her good side…).

Seriously, I’m delighted to be hosting Elisabeth today, a fabulous writer who keeps me on the edge of my seat with her Eternal Guardians series, and I’m anxiously awaiting the coming ebook release of her romantic suspense Stolen series.

And now, I’m handing over the blog to Elisabeth, for a tutorial on how to electrocute your husband without getting caught…

Thanks so much to Rachel and the crew at Kiss and Thrill for inviting me to stop by today!

When talking with a friend about what I should discuss today, she gave me five words of advice: Stick to What You Know. (Ya think she knows I can go off on tangents or what?) We’ve all heard this. Heck, writers are told this when they start writing. If you write what you know you’re more inclined to get it right. But does that mean if a writer writes about murder they’re really a serial killer? (If so, Thomas Harris is in big trouble.) Or what about me? I have a series about Greek mythology. Does that mean I’m really a secret goddess? (I lean toward saying yes. Rachel…don’t answer that one…)

These days, my mantra is: Stick To What You WANT to know. I’m more inclined to read—and write—books about things I want to know versus what I already know. My masters degree is in education. Do I read or write books about teachers? No. Why? Because I’ve lived that life. It’s boring to me. What does interest me? Murder, mayhem, mythology, history, sometimes paranormal abilities, and lots and lots of romance.

Of course, the wanting to know thing can get a person into trouble. Especially one who is a writer. When I was researching STOLEN SEDUCTION, the third book in my Stolen Series, I needed to know how to kill someone without making it look like murder. I contacted an ME via email (one I’d met before and who had spoken at my local writer’s meeting) who never responded to my questions. After brainstorming with my husband—who works for a pharmaceutical company—he decided to ask a doctor he had a good relationship with. Because he wasn’t scheduled to see this doctor for a few more weeks and I needed the info ASAP for my book deadline, he sent the doctor an email. In it he explained that his wife was a writer and was working on a new book and needed to know how to kill someone medically without it looking like murder. The doctor emailed back. Three words: GET A LAWYER.

Yes, I hear you chuckling, but that response reminded me what sorts of trouble I could get myself into. I’m sure I’m on some national watch lists for the things I research on the Internet. After that, I decided not to email research questions anymore. Paper trail! (I’m pretty sure my hubby upped his life insurance too but we won’t go there.) But a writer still has to get their questions answered, right? So I decided face to face is better.

Enter the husband again. (He’s fodder for my research.) My hubby has chronic back pain and in one attempt to fix it he had a neuro-stimulator implanted into his back. The device sends electrical impulses to the area of pain and in theory is supposed to take your mind off the pain you’re experiencing. Pretty cool idea. He was given a trial device to see if it would work for him. Electrical leads were placed into his spinal column for a week. The leads came out of his back and attached to a device—about the size of a pager—that was battery charged and clipped to his waistband. The writer in me pondered this for quite some time. (You see where this is going, don’t you?) There were electrical WIRES sticking out of his spinal column. Long wires. All one would have to do to commit murder would be detach the device when he’s asleep, plug them into an electrical outlet, then reattach the device when the deed was done. It would look like he was killed by an electrical malfunction of the neuro-stimulator. A brilliant solution to a character one must off in a story. But would it work? I needed to have the hubby ask his doctor for verification. So I convinced him to do so at his next appointment. And the doctor (after laughing his ass off) said yes. In theory that would work. Then he sobered and told my husband to keep one eye open when he was sleeping during the rest of the week-long trial.

Hm…on second thought…maybe I do write about what I know. But I digress…

The same is true for what you read. Do you read what you already know? Probably not. I’m guessing you read what you want to know more of. SEALs and detectives and knights and ladies and wizards and…gasp…sometimes even prostitutes. Does that mean you are a SEAL or a detective or a knight or a lady or a wizard or a prostitute? Well, maybe, but my bet is no.  If we all read (and wrote) about only what we already know, how boring would the fiction world be?

So where does that leave me? Continuing to read and research things that interest me. I’m not saying I’ll never write a book about a teacher—I did once, and you guessed it, there was murder involved (when I started asking the DH questions about erotic asphyxiation during the research of that book he told me point blank he wasn’t getting involved in THAT research question). But if I only stuck with what I already know, I—and my readers—would be missing out on a whole lot of good stuff.

I’ve got a copy of my latest book—WAIT FOR ME—a contemporary romantic suspense that includes all kinds of murder and mayhem (and yes, lots and lotsa romance!) to give away to one lucky commenter today. To be entered in the drawing, just for fun, tell me what your training/background/profession is and what your favorite genre to read is. Really curious if the rest of you are like me and read more what you want to know versus what you already do know.

WFM

A woman without a past…

After a tragic accident left her with no memory, Kate Alexander struggled to fit in with a husband and world that didn’t feel right. She’s had no reason to question what friends and family have told her, not until her husband is suddenly killed and she finds a photo of a young girl in his office. A girl who can’t be anyone but a daughter Kate didn’t know she had.

A man desperate for a reason to live…

Ryan Harrison lost his wife in a plane crash five years ago. To cope with the pain of her loss, he dedicated himself to his job and to raising their daughter. Now a successful pharmaceutical executive, Ryan has everything a man could want—money, fame and power—but he’d give it all up in a heartbeat for just one more day with the woman he still loves.

Two lives about to converge.

As Kate begins to dig into a past she doesn’t remember, evidence leads her to San Francisco and puts her on the path toward Ryan, a man who sees in her the woman he loved and lost. Kate feels a draw to Ryan, one she can’t explain, but is that feeling enough to convince her this is where she’s supposed to be? As Ryan and Kate search for answers, they uncover lies long buried, a passion hotter than either expected and a danger that threatens…even now…when the second chance they’ve both been searching for is finally within reach.

“Full of twists and turns, lies and deception, and the ultimate revenge, WAIT FOR ME is a great romantic suspense read.”
